Krosis - Solem Vatem album review

Krosis are a melodic deathcore band from Raleigh, NC USA. Their bio states "modern death metal needs a twist. Too much music is predicated around what artists think fans want to hear. A new culture is emerging with new tastes, new hungers, and the ever-increasing amount of elite heavy metal fans crave the kind of output that we deliver." As you can imagine I am excited from reading that, lets get into it!

With awesome atmospheres that borderline on vaporwave, they create a misleading yet pleasant synth sensations into a barrage of technical death metal with undeniable groove and ferocity. I get serious Sikth or Rings Of Saturn vibes from this but its defiantly doing its own thing and i love how unpredictable it is! Some tracks are impossible to not head bang to and have this underlined feeling of unease due to the nonconforming structure which makes the listener feel out of their comfort zone.

Unfortunately with this djent style it always has a tendency to sound similar and can start to drain at times, It is saved by the bizarre synths and some silly and epic samples breaking up the groove and allowing more context to the songs making the impact more intense.

At this point I'm wondering if we could just call this prog because the album progresses so much and has so many elements, thought and story telling. Just some thoughts I had while listening.

Overview:

By the end of the album you have gone through a wild journey and it was weird, wonderful and frightening. It tends to get repetitive with djent and I feel they could have explored other aspects of the guitar and bass work more often. That said I really enjoyed it!
