M2TM NORTH WALES Heat 4 live review

Rifftastic made its way to the "ATOMIC BAR" in Wrexham for the 4th heat of M2TM. These are the bands stories....dun dun.

First up were "MAD SPANNER", they started with incredible energy and had the crowd going mental with instant pits. Front-man Michael had the crowd in the palm of his hand and commanded the stage with purpose!

Mad Spanner set the bar very high for the night see how the other bands compare!

8/10 RIFFS

Second on were "ABOMINATE", old school death metal with doom elements. They kicked of with dark riffs and thrashing drums filling the room with dread, the crowd was less receptive but they all stayed to listen and had some heads banging and nodding though otherwise static.

The set improved as it went on and the last 3 tracks were solid and i thoroughly enjoyed it bringing nice sense of malice to the room!

7/10 RIFFS

Third on were "GODS OF THE APOCALYPSE". I am not sure what these guys were trying to be they were almost carbon copies of Marylin Manson and Rob Zombie with little originality with repetitive lyrics to boot, BUT they sounded decent enough and they played in time and the songs where pretty catchy but they just rubbed me in the wrong way.

5/10 RIFFS

Fourth on were "REDWOOD AVENUE". Having heard these guys played at Hammerfest I had high hopes as you can imagine and they were a solid metalcore band BUT the songs were all to similar sounding and the riffs were rare and far apart covered in constant breakdowns which after awhile became predictable. Apart from that they did well, commanded the stage had huge pits and put great energy into the set.

6/10

Headlining the M2TM competition were "OBEY", hard rock doom blues? YES, you read that right and boy was it glorious! Constant groovy riffs and solid energy and masterfully doomy elements combined with hard rock had me walking away a fan. Grabbed a shirt! ;)

9/10 RIFFS
