Train Of Thought - 'Hivemind' album review

Train Of Thought are a recently formed British metal band with a variety of styles and genres and have just dropped their debut 'Hivemind' and rifftastic are going to tackle it!

First off the elephant in the room is owens voice, it is so odd it clicks in and out of the songs as working and sometimes not. Its a strange style to add to metal but it works so well in some songs and sounds awesome along with some great melodies created, The album is consistently surprising with awesome guitar sections and catchy lyrics and structures throughout but it starts weak in all honesty and I can see it put people off from the first song but 'strip to your soul' brings it back and sets the tone for the whole album.

I wonder what these songs would be like live with doomy riffs and proggy punk its a variety of styles, 'Black-Hearted & Broken' is very easily the best song on the album and sounds like something from the 90s grunge/doom metal and i feel this would be a great direction for them in the future but thats just my opinion but as a debut they are still going to be finding their sound so allot of the 'dips' in the album can be called growing pains.

The end of the album (Call of the Deep) sounds darker than previous songs with doomy riffs and lethargic vocals bringing that style 'Black-hearted' had back and it sounds like a good ending to the album.

Overview: Pleasantly heavy and progressive with oddities throughout that make it stand out with budding potential, the best is yet to come from these guys.
